Join the UK's leading Ruby team

We are looking for talented Ruby developers to join our team of experts. We are a growing company at the forefront of the Rails industry in the UK, and need people to swell our ranks. It is important that we need super enthusiastic people who display a variety of positive characteristics.

How we work

We work in an Agile way, and need people who understand the virtues of this methodology (particularly XP). We organise the company into teams, and it is important that people can fit into these units. Running User Stories workshops and attending iteration meetings are undertaken by some of our developers, and this can be a nice opportunity to show initiative if you have good client facing skills. Overall we need to have developers who feel responsible for the success of projects and actively try to make them run well.

Who we're looking for

Commercial Rails experience would be very good to have, though a strong background in any OO language is useful. We like to write flexible and modular code which adheres to best practices of OOP. If you have knowledge of established design patterns that is excellent. Primarily we are involved in the backend side of things, so knowledge of HTML/CSS and JS is not compulsory, but is certainly a plus.

Characteristics we really like are people who enjoy technical challenges and get excited by new technology. We’d love it if you are the kind of person who has dabbled with Merb and DataMapper for example, and can bring knowledge of technology into the work environment and share it with other people. Collaboration is key here, and working through complex problems, and helping others where you can is really valuable.

We use Subversion for version control, but are experimenting with switching over to Git. Knowing how to use a version control system when collaborating on code is a useful thing to know.

What we offer

In return we offer a competitive salary and perks such as a conference and training budget. You sit in an Aeron, and code on a company Macbook. We get a wide variety of clients and projects which give exciting opportunities for problem solving. We try to have a great company culture, and encourage lots of geeky chatter, as well as regular X-Box sessions after work. Overall, our main goal is to be(continue being) the number one Ruby company in the UK. If this is something that appeals, drop us a line.

Some other things which are bonuses:

  • Experience in a small to medium agency or as a freelancer
  • Uses OS X and/or some flavour of *nix
  • Willingness to contribute to the reputation of the company through blogging, speaking etc
  • Sysadmin skills
  • Ability to hold one’s own in a Call of Duty deathmatch

Are you a fit?
